The BM Patel Library is the main academic library located on the ML Sultan Campus of the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Named after the Patel family, who played a key role in its founding, the library has grown from a small collection into one of the most advanced learning and research facilities at DUT.
It serves as a central hub for students and staff, offering a wide range of resources — from traditional print materials to extensive digital databases, e-books, and online journals.
The library features modern study areas, group rooms, a dedicated Research Commons for postgraduate students, and a Writing Centre that supports academic writing and research skills. It also embraces technology through innovations such as self-service check-out systems and the establishment of South Africa’s first Lenovo Innovation Centre within its premises. More than just a place for study, the BM Patel Library promotes a vibrant culture of reading, research, and innovation, aligning with DUT’s vision of being a smart, forward-thinking university.
