If play is the work of the child, then toys are the tools. The Adelaide Tambo Public Library in Mangaung has a fun filled play area for young children. The Frozen themed toy room is a vibrant and exciting place for children to explore, dream and make new discoveries.

Outside of the toy room, the library hosts fun events for children such as story hours, holiday programmes, book education programmes and puppet shows.

The first toy library was established at the Trevor Barlow Library in Heidedal and was launched in 2008; ten years later the City has worked hard to launch five more toy libraries across the city.

We met two very welcoming staff members, Lindiwe Mkuzangwe and Mieta Draghoender who gave us great insight into the Early Childhood Development programmes the library offers. A library worth visiting again in the future.

Congratulations to Rickey Rawlinson on winning the best library photo for the month of May 2025.
